The Need

There have been times recently, over the past couple months, where I have been made suddenly aware of the incredible need in our community. Often in a small community, there is this belief that everything is neat, tidy, and clean. But rather than that being the truth, that is just what we often want to see. We don't want to see the people who are hurting, addicted, and broken. We turn our eyes, in hopes that someone else will take care of that need. We go to the other side of the road or remain in our Christian bubbles of safety and warmth.

But I believe Jesus is calling us to get our hands dirty. To be His hands and feet, and practically demonstrate His love to the people in our community. It will cost us time and money. But it will be eternally worth it.

And all the needs won't be met overnight, or in a matter of a year. Rather, this is a lifelong journey we face as a church, to intentionally engage our community and culture for the sake of the Gospel. I believe we must walk forward in courage and an incredible amount of humility as we look to serve others out of love.

The need will always be there...the question we must answer is, "Are we willing to do something about it?"
